On The Iron Man

So anyway, I managed to catch a movie sometime last week, a rarity for me, because movies for me are a tool of social bonding than actual entertainment.

Most of the mainstream movies that’re playing now in the cinema are crap anyway, and I divide them into 2 main genres – “Chick Flicks” and “Jock Flicks”. Very unoriginal, I know, but it serves the purpose of illustrating my point.

I used to watch tons of chick flicks because most of my friends are female (having come from a nunnery in Balmoral hills and all), and I found that they make for very good light crappy conversation. Recently, however, as I come more into contact with the secular world, I’ve started to appreciate the jock versions of plotless meaningless films.

I don’t know if it’s the engineer in me, but I feel just the slightest tinge of excitement as I watch the metal and the machines go. Each buzzing sound of a gear or motor rolling into place, and each click of a metal piece of a suit clicking into position elicits fantasies of the mechanics behind it all, and how practical it really is. The rational side of me dismisses most of it as futuristic bullcrap, but still, it’s cool, ain’t it.

I’m into sci-fi now.
